The Project.

You are required to undertake research on the tourism and travel industry and provide responses against the following questions. Ensure that you provide references on where you obtained your information. You can include examples of documentation or links to support your responses,  to support  your responses. Wherever possible draw on your experience or information from your workplace. You may use your resources, online learning tools, ask your employer however it must be your own work.

Part 1: Industry overview:

1. Present a graphical representation of the tourism and travel industry. The diagram must show the different sector that make up the industry- this includes direct and indirect sectors that you as a travel or tourism professional may need to interact or engage with .  Ensure you reference the source of any information clearly.

2. Select 4 sectors  from the diagram that your current workplace does engage/ interact with in the provision / supply of services and explain:

a. Functions of that sector
b. key characteristics of that sector
c. business relationships between sectors and your workplace.

3. Explain how the tourism or travel organisation that you work for interacts with allied industries such as hospitality and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) in providing products and service for your customers.

4. For each of the sectors you have chosen in question 2, outline and explain the roles and general responsibilities for a jobs in the sector.  

5. For each of the sectors chosen name an industry association either cross-industry and sector-specific  to that sector and explain what the role and functions of each of those associations 

6. Name and outline at least 6 organisations – government, industry or private – such as research bodies, local, regional, state and national tourism information service and marketing organisations that you could access and obtain information on products and services in the tourism and travel industry.

Part 2: Industry Compliance and Laws: 

1. Explain what a trade union is and what are their primary functions in our industry. 
2. In table form , list and briefly explain at least 6 state, federal or local laws or regulations. 

State the name of the law/regulation/ act, state the main purpose of the law/ regulation, provide a brief explanation and give an example of what your organisation must do to comply with this law.

3. Explain the purpose of an industry accreditation scheme Provide 2 examples in your industry.

4. List the names of at least 3 codes of conducts or ethical guideline programs your organisation complies in carrying out business.   Discuss the potential  impact if your organisation does not follow the industry codes of conduct and ethical practices.

Part 3: Emerging trends and technology:

1. Outline  and explain the importance of current and emerging technology and internet based platforms used in the tourism and travelindustry, including as a minimum:

a. Computerised reservations systems
b. E commerce
c. Social media

Also comment on how these technologies can improve workplace practices in your organisation

2. Research ,list and describe 3 emerging/ trending tourism and/or travel product or service. State  where you obtained this information from- referenced your sources.

Part 4: Communication:

1. Provide a range of activities that you would undertake to update and share your knowledge with your colleagues
