Basic Features Of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS) Style

The Title Page

The title page is an independent page that needs to capture a title page which captures the title, author’s name, course title, professor’s name and the date.

The Body

In the body, the page numbers are to be put at the bottom right-hand corner with the text being double spaced. All the new paragraphs have to be indented. The paragraphing should be such that the space is maintained as double space. Strayer standards recommends use of Calibri, Ariel or the Times New Roman format. The writing design is such that page numbers have to be included, pages maintained at 1-inch margin. The standard also recommends the use of section headings to divide the different content areas. The section headings have to be centered on the page and consistently maintained. The standards also stipulate that for charts, tables, images and graphs, they are not part of the word count. However, they can be included with an explanation of why the data is important to the paper discussion/assignment. Therefore, when inserting them into the paper, it is important that an explanation is given as to why they have to be included. Writing has to be in the active voice

Ethical Writing

Ethical writing ensures that there is no plagiarism in the written paper. The first ethical aspect is citing credible sources that can support the ideas when required. The standards require that sources have to be cited throughout the work when using work or words borrowed from another author. In the writing process, the standards also recommend that a spelling or grammar check has to be done to ensure the writing is free of errors. Based on the assignment guidelines, a first, second or third person can be used to present the points being discussed.

Reference List

It is expected that any work being presented in the assignment is supported by external sources. The standards contend that all the references cited in the body of work have to be included at the reference section which is at the end of the assignment. The word sources have to be centered horizontally on the first line of the source list page. The sources used in the assignment have to be recorded in the first line of the reference list. The sources used in the text have to be numbered alphabetically at the sources section.

Other than the paper or assignment guidelines, the Strayer Writing Standards also outline the considerations that have to be made in a templated assignment guideline or a PowerPoint assignment guideline. For a templated assignment, the standards require that the specific template has to be used at all times with a clear consideration of the set template specifications. For a PowerPoint, background color or images have to be used on the slides and a font size maintained at 36 to 44 for the title slides and 28 to 32 for the body slides. For slides more than three, they have to be numbered. Whichever kind of assignment requirements to be used, the key considerations to be made include using an appropriate and concise language, writing an active voice and ensuring proper spelling/grammar.
