Presentation of a Journal Article that Relates to a Specific Developmental Issue – Medical Science Assignment Help

Assignment Task:

Task:

For this assignment, each student will create a 3 minute video presentation of a journal article that relates to a specific developmental issue. Students must choose a peer reviewed journal from the University of Manitoba library system that was published in the last 2 years (2019 to 2021) and that relates to a specific developmental issue. The journal article should be based on a research study that examines an issue related to physical, cognitive, social, or emotional development during a specific developmental period (e.g., prenatal, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age). Website information (e.g., articles, blogs, information pages) and internet based articles do not meet assignment requirements. Topic choice is completely up to students provided that the topic relates to an aspect of development at some point in the lifespan. The textbook (see “From Research to Practice” in Chapter 1 Module 3) lists several types of research questions that developmental researchers are currently trying to answer across Canada. These are just a few examples of the types of topics that would be suitable for the video presentations, and students are encouraged to choose a topic that they are most interested in learning more about.
Students must then summarize the information contained in the article in a 3 minute video presentation. Video presentations need to include a brief summary of all main sections of the article (i.e., introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections of the article). Presentations should also convey the information in layman’s language (i.e., everyday language that can be easily understood by a non-academic audience). Make sure to use your own words to describe the contents of the journal article. It is not acceptable to repeat information word- for-word from the article. Presentation style (e.g., enthusiasm, interest, eye contact, no reading, tone, speed, body language, etc.) will also be considered when grading the video. Video presentations cannot exceed 3 minutes in length (anything after the 3 minute mark will not be watched or graded). This video assignment is very similar to the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition that occurs at the University of Manitoba every year (except you will be presenting on someone else’s research findings rather than your own). Examples of 3MT videos are available at: http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/3mt/winners.html4
You may need someone to assist with taping the video as the images in the video should include the presentation from at least the waist up (i.e., head shots only/selfie-type presentations do not meet assignment requirements). If you need help with videotaping your presentation and/or do not have access to videotaping equipment, please contact the Teacher’s Assistant (contact information will be available on the UM Learn course homepage) for the course during his/her office hours and they can assist you with taping and uploading your assignment. This assistance must be organized at least 2 weeks prior to the due date for the assignment. Students must also upload a reference page (in WORD format) along with their video submission detailing the full reference citation in APA format for the journal article that was used in their presentation. The full grading rubric for the video assignment is available on p. 20 of this syllabus.
