Review the manufacturing process through the following tasks.
In this assignment, you are expected to describe and evaluate an existing manufacturing operation, showing an awareness of how it compares to good practice. In doing so, you will demonstrate both the knowledge gained on operations management as well as your capability in applying some of the techniques we have taught.
 

Part 1 
Provide a brief description of the process design in the episode, giving an evaluation of what the overall operations strategy is for the product. This part will draw on content from lectures in weeks 1 to 4. You may wish to reference aspects such as order winners/market qualifiers and the product-process matrix.

Part 2 
Draw a value stream map for the product. This should cover as much of the operation as is discussed in the programme. Part 3 
Identify two areas where the case study process either demonstrates operational excellence (e.g. through the application of lean principles) or could be improved. It may also be helpful to include screen shots from the programme to illustrate the points you are making.

In studying the process, it will be important to use both audio and visual clues from the programme. Learning on Screen also provides a transcript which may prove helpful. Please focus only on the main product featured in the programme. You may also wish to include screen shots from the programme to illustrate the points being made. You must also include references to sources used in parts 1 and 3. These should be put in a list at the end of the assignment and are not part of the above suggested word counts. It is expected that you cite at least six different sources, such as recommended text books or relevant journal papers.
