PURPOSE
The overall goal of field placement is to promote the concept of “learning by doing”. A
placement provides students with the opportunity to apply the theory and skills they have
learned in the program, and to gain valuable work experience. However, due to the COVID-19
pandemic, law firms, businesses, government offices and not-for-profit organizations are not
operating as usual. The current circumstances have made it nearly impossible for many of our
hosts to offer placements, as they did in the past.
The completion of this individual assignment will serve as an equivalent to the physical field
placements. The assignment will allow students to illustrate their proficiencies in the various
skills learned in the program.
INSTRUCTIONS & DELIVERABLES
For this assignment, you will be asked to conduct several tasks for various partners at an
imaginary law firm. You will use your knowledge and skills to complete the various tasks and
are expected to:
• Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism, as evidenced by meeting deadlines, and
completing this assignment in a timely fashion.
• Communicate clearly and concisely.
• Conduct research, review legislation, and synthesize relevant information.
• Analyze, evaluate, and apply relevant information from a variety of sources.

1. A cover page consisting of an appropriate title, the course code, your full name, and
the date.
2. Draft an Legal Research Memo
3. Draft a Bill of Costs
4. Prepare the Minutes from a Client Interview
5. Draft Letters ordering Ms. Jenner’s school and hospital records
6. Find case law and citing cases
