Investigation of Historical Aspect of Development of Number in Mathematics Science Assignment Help

Assignment Task

Dear Students
The notes in blue below is a further explanation of the second assessment task. Please email me if you have any further questions:
Assessment task 2: Task description
Your response should preferably be written in the third person.
From the list below, select ONE topic that enables investigation of a historical aspect of the development of number in mathematics within an indigenous culture. It is important to focus on the number aspect of the topic which is the focus of this unit, and not on the geometry and measurement aspect because that is the focus of a different unit.
(i) Provide the background to the indigenous culture which you have chosen by referring to the specific period of time and the general characteristics of that culture (their cultural practices, challenges they faced etc). Max 300 words.
(ii) Discuss the mathematics of your chosen topic. Ensure you convey a sound understanding of the mathematics within the topic. (A good test of understanding is to consider whether you could discuss the mathematics by explaining it to peers in your own words.). Show how the mathematics was applied to solve a problem or problems (e.g., in a counting, or numeration, or in a record system, or for calculation etc) which the indigenous culture faced. Max 500 words.
(iii) Indicate whether your chosen topic has prompted further mathematical developments within the culture or society more generally, in other words, discuss whether the use of the mathematics of your chosen topic has changed over time within the chosen culture. If there were no further mathematical developments or changes in the way in which your chosen topic’s mathematics was used over time then provide reasons for this. Max 200 words
(iv) Explore any mathematical contribution your chosen topic still has or might have to present day society. In other words, if you cannot identify how your chosen topic contributes to any mathematical problem present day society faces, then suggest how you think it might contribute to (therefore, attempt to find a possible application of the mathematics in your chosen topic to a present day problem). Max 200 words
(v) Quality academic references (scholarly journals and books) should be used to research your topic, cited in-text and in the List of References. Please ensure that you follow the referencing guidelines of the 7th edition American Psychological Association (APA) referencing system. (Wikipedia and similar internet sites are not considered quality academic sources. Assistance with finding suitable literature can be provided by the Library.)
(vi) Summarize the main ideas of the first four criteria (i – iv) in a video which should be uploaded to the posted LEO assignment tab. The time limit for the video is five minutes. The video does not need to include references because they are included in your main essay. Please keep the file size less than 100 MB which is the limit for LEO video submissions. Students may choose whether their faces are shown or not in the video.
The purpose of the video is to present your essay in video format which will be interesting and engaging to an audience. It should present a summary of the first four criteria of your essay, but should not be a reading of everything you have written in your essay, but rather taking sections of your essay and presenting it in an interesting way.
The video can be made by designing PowerPoint slides and then making a Zoom recording, or you can use apps like Powtoon or Vimeo (or other video software). Please note that your file size must be smaller than 100 MB. If it is bigger, upload a Word document with your link to a cloud storage, for example, a YouTube video or Google Drive. NB: Ensure that your video is accessible by the lecturers.
