1. Complete a detailed review of the relevant literature which demonstrates a critical understanding of the evidence base relevant to a work-based practice project proposal.
2. Contextualise and clearly define the focus of the proposal generated from and informed by practice.
3. Appreciate the principles and practice of project management in relation to their work-based practice project proposal.
Learning Outcomes: Knowledge and Understanding
1. Critically analyse the literature, contextualising the rationale behind the work-based practice project proposal, demonstrating initiative and decision making.
2. Critically explore how the work-based practice project proposal will be guided to a successful conclusion, identifying strategies of evaluation to evidence this.
3. Demonstrate how the underpinning module knowledge, skills and attitudes apply to their specific fields of nursing and to the essential needs of all service users.
1. Show mastery in systematically accessing and critiquing the relevant literature and evidence base related to the work-based practice project proposal.
2. Use principles and approaches of evidence-based nursing practice and initiative to design a work-based practice project proposal within their specialist field of nursing which is underpinned by appropriate evidence.
Module Content
Students on this module will be supported to create an evidence-based proposal to effect positive change in service delivery. It represents an exciting opportunity for students to engage in a negotiated work-based practice project proposal that will encourage them to focus upon a practice issue of personal and professional interest. Students will be encouraged to explore this in an imaginative and innovative manner which may lead to new ways of improving practice for the benefit of service users from an individual, group or whole service perspective. The project is conceived as having the potential to be taken further by student in a role beyond registration, working within care/service teams.

The module will be mainly delivered through methods of `project facilitation’ with the student being primarily guided by academic based staff to develop their inquiry skills. Students will be expected to critically reflect on practice issues generating the focus of the proposed work-based practice project. The module will supplement and support the proposed work-based practice project activity by utilising flexible learning strategies. Delivery will also include some lead lectures complemented by a range of seminars and work-shops. These will focus on the skills of project design, development and management. In addition, there will be lectures/seminars which will further examine the contemporary state of evidence and research within nursing generally and within the individual specialist fields of nursing which students are pursuing.Whilst the proposed work-based practice project will not concern itself with personal data gathering, it will nevertheless act as an academic opportunity and vehicle for students to begin to hone their skills in engaging with potential future research activity.As this module is concerned with the creation of a proposal, the project will not be delivered. Nevertheless, learning experiences will equip students with key skills and knowledge necessary for implementation. It is anticipated that students will be in a position to implement the project at a time beyond registration and in partnership with employers.Elements of the module include;- Relationship between evidenced based practice and project management- Undertaking & constructing a critical review of literature- Project Planning & Management- Legal and professional implications of project management, including health and safety considerations- Clinical governance- Risk Management – Local & national
