(a) Assuming the daily irradiance is received at above rate over 10 hours of daylight, determine the mean daily irradiance. 
(b) Determine the geometric concentration ratio and the heat flux received by the receiver. 
(c) Assuming that the receiver is not connected to a power generation block and that the only significant losses are radiative, calculate the temperature of the receiver.
(d) Assuming heat losses are only through radiation at the receiver and that the receiver is connected to a power generation block that is an ideal Carnot machine.

Determine the maximum efficiency of the system and the temperature reached. You may need to plot efficiency as a function of receiver temperature. 

3. A petrol-engine vehicle is to be sold in the USA, thus it is to be tested on the FTP-75 cycle as part of CAFE regulations. As the trainee engineer, you are tasked with predicting the expected fuel economy on the FTP-75 cycle from the basic specification and cycle parameters below.


(a) Calculate the energy dissipated by aerodynamic drag during the cycle. 
(b) Calculate the energy dissipated by rolling resistance during the cycle. 
(c) Calculate the mass of fuel consumed to complete the cycle and hence the predicted miles per gallon (MPG) rating theoretically expected for this vehicle.
