There are three parts to this assignment:
Part 1 – Narrative.
Observe the early childhood educator or a parent/guardian interacting with an individual child or a group of children in the video and record this using a detailed narrative observation method. Capture the interaction between the adult and the child/ren in this encounter (verbal and non verbal) and the contextual details of the environment.
Part 2 – Discussion of the importance of high quality interactions in early childhood .
This part focuses on the significance of effective interaction with the young children.
Part 3 – Analysis of the interaction and dialogue.
Critically analyse the narrative (dialogue – verbal and non verbal) and its pedagogical significance, or potential and areas that could be improved, in consideration of children as learners in curriculum. Consider both verbal and nonverbal interactions, timing and a potential rationale for engagement of the adult protagonist/s in the learning encounter. Identify ways this dialogue/interaction is or is not appropriate against the literature, including the EYLF.
