Mr Douglas Martin, the 75-year-old male who had surgery on his fractured neck of femur and he has now been on the rehabilitation ward for one week. You are on placement, and you have cared for Mr Martin for that week. You have built up a good rapport with him and he often asks for you to help him. One morning shift, Mr Martin asks you if he can take care of his hygiene needs by himself because he wants to be more independent. However, at handover you remember being informed that he had a fall two days ago when he tried to do everything himself, and that he is still a falls risk. 

On the next shift, you learn that Mr Martin has continued to refuse to participate in some rehabilitation exercises that will help him to improve his walking so he can stop using the walker. You ask him why he won’t do the exercises and he tells you, ‘it’s painful, but I will do it if you give me some tablets for the pain.

That evening, after your shift, you are going through your Facebook account, and you see a photo of your friend, who is also on placement on the rehabilitation ward, sitting with Mr Martin on his bed. When you approach your friend about this, she says that she asked Mr Martin if she could take the photo.
