Upon successful completion of this module, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

1. Critically assess the culture and context of an organisation.
2. Evaluate an organisation within its broader environment using appropriate environmental and organisational analysis techniques.
3. Critically appraise the cultural and ethical behaviour present in one or more organisations.

To demonstrate effective leadership and management skills it is important to be able to research a subject, communicate your knowledge and understanding in an appropriate academic manner and apply your knowledge and understanding in a workplace context.

Part One – Video Presentation (25%)

This task requires you to prepare and deliver a professional presentation:

a.Choose one organisation from the following as the basis of your presentation.

• Ryan Air
• British Airways
• Apple
• Disney
• Google

b. Prepare a 5-minute video presentation for the senior management team on the topic of organizational culture. During your presentation you should describe and recommend tools that can be used to analyse the external environment and current culture of the organisation. You should include examples of how the tools can be applied and make recommendations regarding the most appropriate tools for the organisation to use.

c. You should be visible in the video at some point, but have the option of embedding the video in other media, or inserting additional information/diagrams if you wish.

d. Your presentation must be academic in nature and include references to credible sources. Upload a word document that contains your reference list plus a link to your video, to Turnitin by 3pm on TBC

Part Two – Report 

Your task is to produce a 3,500 word report that demonstrates your detailed understanding of the workplace culture and context of your chosen organisation. 

1. An introduction to the organisation, including the two most important external factors affecting the organisation at the moment.

2. A detailed critical analysis of the workplace culture using a model of your choice.

3. A critical analysis of the positive cultural elements (for example its values) which have contributed to its success, in particular its successful navigation of the current pandemic.

4. A critical analysis of the organisation’s ethical stance, including examples of ethical/unethical behaviour in the organisation.
