Background Information:
In this essay you are required to select a common but significant physical health issue experienced by consumers living with a mental illness. An example of an issue could be cardiovascular diseases amongst people living with a mental illness, risk for diabetes with antipsychotic medication, chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD) and smoking in mental health consumers, sexual health concerns related to mental health consumers. You are to discuss the prevalence of this health issue/concern and impact on mental health consumers. You should also include the available literature on the topic identifying evidence-based guidelines for assessment, treatment planning, implementation of guidelines and recommendations for practice based on your findings.
