Task 1: Conducting a Situational Analysis

Conduct a situation analysis to identify a need in your school community related to “peace, justice and strong institutions” for which you can design a context-specific curriculum.After conducting the situational analysis,write three paragraphs in which you:

1.1 Give an overview of the school community for which you intend to develop a curriculum. This overview should include a discussion on

(1) The specific area in which the school/organisation is situated.

(2) The socio-economic climate of the school/organisation.

(3) The medium of instruction at the school/organisation.

(4) The number of staff and learners in the school/organisation. Make a list of factors that could potentially influence the curriculum development process.For example, factors relating to housing,health care, access to educational institutions,enrichment opportunities,educational levels,familial situations, socio-economic status,employment,exposure to trauma and criminality,and physical and mental health.

1.2 Describe the human resources available at the school/organisation for implementing a peace,justice and strong institutions curriculum.

Task 2: Writing A Problem Statement And Rationale

Write three paragraphs in which you outline a need or opportunity for designing and developing a curriculum that will address a need related to peace, justice and strong institutions. These paragraphs should include:

2.1 Describe the problem/need/opportunity that you have identified in your context that you will address by designing a curriculum. State why this is a problem/need/opportunity and what the negative effect is on the school community.

2.2 Discuss the specific target group for whom you intend to develop a curriculum.Describe them in terms of their age, their educational levels and competencies, where they live as well as their socio-economic circumstances. Develop a learner profile by including references to educational problems, language proficiency, learner competencies, learner needs, and the learning culture of the school (institution).

2.3 Discuss why it is necessary to address the identified mental health need/problem, and what the benefits might be for the individual and community if this need was addressed.

TASK 3: Writing a Purpose Statement:

3.1 Write one paragraph in which you outline the focus of your curriculum. In your paragraph, be specific about what the intent of your curriculum is. Also, specify when this curriculum will be implemented, as well as the duration of the implementation.
