ASSESSMENT TASK: ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
An annotated bibliography provides a comprehensive bibliography (reference list) of the range of research on a subject. It should include brief descriptive summaries (these are the annotations) of select readings. A good annotated bibliography will do the following:
• Familiarise your reader with the scholarship on your topic in less than 1200 words (including references).
• Identify the variation in interpretations and theoretical perspectives on that topic. Identify which perspectives are dominant.
• Identify connections between the readings (this is very important in deciding which readings are the ‘key texts’
• Highlight critiques of dominant perspectives.

Your annotated bibliography should provide the reader with:
• an informative title identifying the subject area
• a short introduction – introducing the topic and explaining the relevance of the selected articles to the topic. Define any key terms.
• summaries of at least six written sources (journal articles, book chapters, and/or books)
• full details of each article/chapter/book covered, including author and publication details according to the Harvard (or other author-date system) referencing guidelines required for the unit
• a brief summary of the aims of the research reported in each article and its method
• a brief summary of the conclusions of each article
